The rules of the road.

These terms apply when you use un-markup.com or the Unmarkup app. Using either means you accept them. If you don't, please stop using them. If anything is unclear, email hello@un-markup.com before you rely on anything on the site.

What Unmarkup is

Unmarkup is editorial commentary on beauty products, their ingredients, their prices, and cheaper alternatives that do similar things. We publish that commentary as a website and a mobile app. Everything you see is our own opinion, formed by us, with the sources we cite where relevant.

What Unmarkup is not

Not medical or cosmetic advice. We discuss ingredients and formulations. We are not dermatologists or medical practitioners. If something on your skin worries you, see a doctor.
Not financial advice. Comparisons to investing "the money you saved" are illustrative, based on generic assumptions we state on the page. They are not a personal recommendation to invest and take no account of your circumstances.
Not a retailer. We do not sell any product you see on Unmarkup. Buying takes place on the retailer's own website under their terms.
Not a guarantee of price or availability. Prices we quote reflect the moment we researched a product. They change. The retailer's own page is the source of truth at the moment of purchase.

Our editorial independence

Which product we recommend as a better alternative is never influenced by which retailer pays us the most, or by any payment from a brand. Brands do not pay us to be included, to be reviewed favourably, or to have a specific product named as the best pick. If that ever changes, this page changes with it, and we tell you first.

Some links to retailers pay us a commission when you buy through them. That relationship is explained in full on the affiliate disclosure page.

Trademarks and other people's brands

When we name a brand or a product, we are referring to it for the purpose of honest comparison. Those trademarks belong to their owners. Nothing on Unmarkup implies endorsement by, sponsorship by, or affiliation with those brands unless we specifically say so.

Content on Unmarkup

Editorial content, illustrations, and page design are owned by Unmarkup. You can share links and quote us briefly with credit. You cannot republish whole articles, scrape the app or site programmatically, or use our content to train a machine learning model without our permission in writing.

Your conduct

You agree not to attempt to interfere with the site or app, reverse engineer any part of it beyond what UK law allows, or use it in a way that would breach any UK law.

Warranty and liability

We take reasonable care to be accurate. We cannot guarantee that every fact on Unmarkup is current, complete, or free from error. To the fullest extent UK law allows, we are not liable for any loss you incur from relying on Unmarkup, including loss of money spent on a product, loss of anticipated savings, or business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that UK law does not let us exclude.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms occasionally. Every version is dated at the top. If we change anything material, we say so on the home page for at least 14 days.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
